Smoking Cessation

We actively encourage and offer help on Smoking cessation. Smoking is one of the biggest health hazard. Our Nurse is in-house level 2 trained smoking cessation adviser. Doctors and the Nurse can prescribe Nicotine Replacement thearpies in form of patches, gums etc.

Cervical Smear Test

It is widely established that the incidence and severity of cancer of cervix can be dramatically reduced by taking the smears from cervix at regular intervals. We have a well established five year NHS Recall system. Please take advantage of this facility. Smears can be booked either with the practice nurse or lady doctor.

Asthma Clinic

Held weekly by appointment with practice nurse. Please enquire at reception for more details.

Family Planning

Advice on family planning can be discussed during normal surgery consultations with doctors or with the Practice Nurse. Cap and coil fittings are only done by doctors by appointment. Our practice nurse has special training in family planning and is also available for consultation. Women on Oral Contraception (Pill) must see nurse, 6 monthly for Blood Pressure check, otherwise repeat prescription for the ‘pill’ may be refused. Emergency Contraception (Post-coital pill or IUD) is offered to patient who attend Surgery within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.

Immunisations

Travel Immunisation: Please make an appointment at reception with the practice nurse to discuss your requirements. Please seek advice at least eight weeks before travel. There may be a charge on travel immunisations.

General Immunisation: Vaccination against flu, Tetanus and Polio are available through the practise nurse.

Baby Clinics & Childhood Immunisation: We offer Child Health Surveillence according to National program which includes Developmental checks and Immunisation. The program commences at eight weeks and invitation is sent by the local Community Healthcare Trust.. Baby clinics are held jointly by Doctor and Health visitors at both Surgery sites fortnightly. Developmental checks and scheduled child immunisations are carried out in these clinics. All children under the age of 5 years may attend by appointment. Written parental consent of the mother is speifically required by law for immunisation.

      2nd DTP + HIB + Polio & 1st Meningitis C - by Practice Nurse

      16 Weeks                       
      3rd DTP + HIB + Polio, 2nd Meningitis C & 2nd Pneumococcal Conjugate - by Practice Nurse

      7 months                      
      Hearing Test by Health Visitor

      8 Months                        
      Development check by Health Visitor and Doctor

    12 months               
    Hib & Mengitis C booster in a combined injection - By Practice Nurse

    13 months
    Measle Mumps & Rubella combined (MMR) and PCV booster separate - By Practice Nurse

      3-1/2 - 5 years                 
      Development check by Health visitor and Doctor
       & Pre-school Boosters: DTP + Polio & 2nd MMR - Vaccines by Practice Nurse

Maternity Services

Pre-conceptual advice is given by the doctor to couples planning a pregnancy. Advice on diet, Iron/ Folic acid supplememnts, medications and general well being is given to all but particularly to patients with pre-existing medical conditions.may be

Pregnanncy test may be done by patient herself, using kits available at the chemists or at the Surgery. Theses kits are chargeable. Practice nurse can also do the test for you. Free pregnanct test may be done at the hospital by obtaining a request card from doctor or the nurse.

Ante-natal Clinic: Once pregnancy is confirmed by home pregnance test or a test at the hospital, the expectant mother should make an appointment to see doctor who will refer the patient to local hospital for Maternity care. Uncomplicated pregnancy care is shared between Hospital and GP practice. After referral is made, the midwife will ‘pick up’ the referral and contact patient within few days to advise about the schedule of events involving blood tests Ultrasound scan and hospital attendances and Midwife clinic attendances held at GP Surgery. The midwife holds weeky ante-natal clinics at both sites. An appointment is generally sent.

Post-natal appointments are arranged six weeks after delivery, by appointment with the doctor, please do so after confinement. All medical aspects of motherhood can be discussed at the post-natal appointment, including family planning, social and psychological adjustments and physical well being.

Minor Surgery

Both Doctors are qualified to carry out minor surgical procedures, such as Excision of skin lesions, lumps and ‘bumps’. Dr. Gupta specialises in Vasectomy (visit our website: www.non-scalpelvasectomy.co.uk ) and Adult male Circumcision operations which may be on NHS or private basis. Circumcision on NHS is only considered if it is on medical grounds. Rligious circumcisions are only on private basis. Your doctor will advice you where this is appropriate. Dr Goel specialises in Hormone Implants for Menopausal women.

Health Checks

These are conducted by the practice nurse and are open to all patients by appointment.

Over 75's Health Check

These are performed by the practice nurse. Patients can be seen either at their own homes or at the surgery by appointment.

Diabetic Clinic

This is held monthly or opportunistically by appointment and is run by both the doctors and the practice nurse

New Patients Health Check

New Patients are welcome at the surgery. When you register you will be offered a new patient check with the practice nurse. It is important that you attend this mandatory check as it will speed up the registration process.
